Koha Bootcamp

Task 1

Task: change your password and explore which functions are part of which modules.

Home screen

1.) View your account information and search history:

  • My account: see your current checkouts, holds, bills, and contact information. This is also where you can go to

  • Search history: quickly search again for something you have recently searched for (e.g., interrupted by another patron in the building while responding to a phone request? Use search history to quickly return to your previous search. Note: search history can be manually deleted by each user (it is not currently scheduled to be routinely deleted)).

2.) Header bar quick links – quick links to different Koha modules and to our Aspen catalog

3.) Green Quick Actions Toolbar – default function is “Check out” (unfortunately, this cannot be user-defined). You can click to select other functions for the green toolbar—we will likely be using “Search catalog” and “Search patrons” most frequently. Alternatively, you can bookmark any modules/functions that you use often (expect desktop shortcuts on the reference desk computers to “Advanced search” and the “Holds queue” (aka the pull list / onshelf items list)) or use keyboard shortcuts to change the search function (e.g., ALT+Q for “Search catalog”).

4.) Modules – you might not have access to all of the modules shown here. An important distinction: Advanced search is used to search bibliographic records and Item search is used to search for items in our library by item status, shelving location, etc. Item search returns a spreadsheet (so it is used more like a report, which we used to have to run separately via BlueCloud Analytics for shelf lists and missing lists).

5.) Help – Links to the Koha Community Manual and the link is context aware, so for example, clicking “Help” while on the patron search screen will link directly to the “Patrons” chapter of the Koha Community Manual. Note: Koha Community Manual differs from the system ILS Handbook (formerly known as the ANSER Manual). The ILS Handbook includes systemwide ILS procedures, and systemwide ILS policies can be found in the recently updated Schedule A.
