Task 17
Task: sign up a new adult patron for a library card in Koha.
Adding a Patron
Before adding a new patron, always use “Search patrons”
to check for an existing library account.
1.) From the home screen, select the Patrons module.
2.) Click the button and select the appropriate category for the new patron.
3.) You are then taken to the Add patron screen. Scroll down the page and fill out the sections and fields that are required by our library card policy and existing procedures, including fields under: Patron identity, Main address, and Contact information.
4.) Under Library management, click within the Card number text box and then scan the new library card.
5.) Under OPAC/Staff interface login, the username will automatically populate after you’ve scanned the barcode in the previous step. Next, create a password (formerly known as the patron’s PIN) for the patron based on the recommendation from the new ILS handbook:
For the password, we recommend using a seven-character pattern:
- First two letters of the last name (first letter capitalized, second letter lowercase)
- Last four digits of the primary phone number
- An exclamation point
For example, a starting password for patron with the last name Smith and a phone number of (845)555-7719 would be: Sm7719!
Then, re-enter the same password in the next box to confirm.
6.) Change any Patron messaging preferences as necessary.
Finally, click (located at the top of the screen)
