Task: change a patron’s password or send them a password reset link.

Password Change

When patrons cannot remember their password or PIN, you can change the password for them or send them a password reset link (if their email address is on file).

First, search for the patron.

1.) From the patron’s record, you can select the  button to enter a new password for the patron.

Remember the default password recommendation from the ILS Handbook:

For the password, we recommend using a seven-character pattern:
  • First two letters of the last name (first letter capitalized, second letter lowercase)
  • Last four digits of the primary phone number
  • An exclamation point
For example, a starting password for patron with the last name Smith and a phone number of (845)555-7719 would be: Sm7719!"

2.) Alternatively, if you click the More button, you can then select Send password reset from the menu (if the patron has an email address on file).

3.) Finally, patrons can also reset their PIN/Password themselves via the public catalog (Aspen Discovery) or RCLS Go app by clicking the Reset My PIN/Password? link when signing in and then entering their library card number. Again, this will only work if they have an email address already on file. (See screenshots below to reset passwords in Aspen and RCLS Go.)

Aspen Discovery (aka the public catalog)

Reset link directs patrons to the following screen:
