Task 14
Task: renew an item that is currently checked out to a patron and extend the renewal due date.
Renewing checkouts
First, scan the patron’s library card or search for the patron in the green quick actions toolbar.
1.) Once you pull up the patron’s record, scroll down the record until you see the Checkouts (X) table.
2.) In the Renew column of the table, you can see all of the items that are available to renew and how many renewals are remaining. If the item is eligible for renewal, a checkbox will be visible in this column. Select the corresponding checkbox for the item that the patron would like to renew.
3.) At the bottom of the table, you can set the Renewal due date. As mentioned previously, setting the renewal due date is one workaround for extending the due date of an item that has already been checked out (the alternative option is to check the item back in and then specify the due date before checking the item back out).
4.) Click the button.
Task 15
Task: a patron would like to suspend their hold on an item for two weeks so that they do not miss the opportunity to pick the item up while they are away on vacation.
Suspending holds
Once again, find the patron’s record by scanning their library card or searching for the patron in the green quick actions toolbar, and then scroll down the record to the Checkouts (X) table.
1.) Instead of staying on the Checkouts (X) tab, switch to the Holds (X) tab.
2.) In the Suspend? column, click the button in the row corresponding to the item(s) that the patron would like to suspend.
3.) A popup box will appear allowing you to specify the date that the hold will resume.
4.) Set the date and click
5.) In the Status column, you can now see that the hold was successfully suspended and the date that the hold will resume. If the patron would like to resume their hold sooner, you can click the button that has now appeared in the Suspend? column
6.) You may have already noticed that at the bottom of the table, there are also buttons that allow you to suspend or resume all holds for a patron at once.
