Help Needed, Help Given
- ARC of RocklandThe Arc Rockland is facing a severe shortage of protective face masks and is looking for people who have a knowledge of sewing and want to help.
- findhelp.orgLists free and reduced-cost services in every city in America and highlights hundreds of programs.
- Helping Hands of RocklandThe Helping Hands Rockland Interfaith Breakfast Program needs volunteers to work in the kitchen with a small crew of volunteers (well under 10!) to put meals together. Volunteers are also needed to make sandwiches at home. Sandwich makings will be delivered to and picked-up from your home.
- Food Bank of the Hudson ValleyVolunteers continue to play important roles in the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley’s work and ability to respond to increased requests for assistance as a result of COVID-19. We are still hosting volunteers to sort and box donations and are taking precautions to help ensure staff and volunteers stay safe during their shifts.
- Meal on Wheels RocklandMeals on Wheels is in urgent need of drivers to deliver meals to our Rockland County older adult neighbors.
- Nyack CenterWhile Nyack Public Schools are closed, Nyack Center will be open with a small skeleton staff M-F from 9:30 am until 1. We will be distributing “take out bagged” breakfast and lunch to children on free and reduced lunch
until school reopens. We are working closely with the Nyack School District and other community partners to respond to the urgent needs caused by COVID-19. This outbreak has disrupted work and childcare for many families — and will continue to do so. - Nyack Mask MakersNyack Mask Makers is a community project providing urgent protective gear for doctors, nurses and staff at Montefiore Nyack Hospital, as they serve Rockland County, New York, during the increased patient activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
- People to PeopleIn order to provide our neighbors in need with the food assistance they so urgently require while minimizing the potential spread of the virus, People to People is revising its food distribution system to feature curb-side delivery of food packages to its clients.
- Red CrossDue to the critical blood supply shortage, Living Christ Church in Nyack (151 S Broadway) is hosting a blood drive from 12-5 on April 9. Extensive safety protocols have been put in place to ensure that donors and staff are kept safe. Anyone in good health can donate, visit redcrossblood.org to schedule an appointment. Volunteers are also needed to support the drive, and will be given protective gear.
Due to the popularity of this week's blood drive, we have set up another drive on April 29 from 11:30-5:30. Same information as before holds up in terms of where to sign up for an appointment. Any publicity you can give this activity would be appreciated! - Rockland Community FoundationThe cornerstone of the Rockland Community Foundation is to seek and stimulate permanent endowment building and to help ensure that today’s and tomorrow’s charitable needs in Rockland are met. Our focus is to raise the public consciousness of charitable giving in the County, to the benefit of all non-profits in Rockland, and to develop and increase Rockland’s overall capacity to raise private, corporate, public and foundation funds.
- Rockland County Food PantriesFACT: There are over 40 food pantries and feeding programs through Rockland County that serve over 300,000 meals per month!
FACT: The majority of these pantries and feeding programs are staffed by volunteers with very limited funding. - Rockland Pride CenterThe Pride Center is here to ensure that the people in our community have access to food and other necessities, social connection, mental health support, and safety planning. Pride Center staff and volunteers are mobilizing to fill the gaps as other organizations suspend services, as people are quarantined, and as in-person services are reduced.
- United HospiceUnited Hospice needs volunteers who can help with running errands, food shopping and picking up prescriptions.
- United Way of Rockland CountyRockland County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, a program of the United Way and in partnership with the Rockland County Office of Emergency Management, is mobilizing volunteers to conduct well-check telephone calls to people listed on the Special Needs Registry, also known as the Access & Functional Needs Registry. This is the Registry that is used by 911.
Volunteers will inquire about the person’s food and medication status, and share Emotional Support Resources. Based on the information exchanged in the call, if any need goes beyond the questions asked, the person will receive a follow up call from someone who can assist on a higher level.
Volunteers can sign up by going to the website and clicking on the “How You Can Help” button and then clicking on the Volunteer Form under the caption “Become a RCVOAD Volunteer”. After the application is submitted you will receive a call/email about a Virtual Training (approximately an hour). - Volunteer New YorkSometimes the biggest impact comes from the powerful force of a neighbor helping another neighbor. This page features volunteer opportunities to aid communities, agencies and those most vulnerable who have been impacted by COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We are working closely with our local partner agencies, county and state officials to ensure a coordinated response. Please note that volunteers are always needed for emergencies. If you are not able to volunteer for this recovery effort there are many other nonprofit agencies that can use your help throughout the year.
- Free VIRTUAL (live) naloxone training availableParticipants learn to recognize, respond to and reverse a suspected opioid overdose using intranasal naloxone (Narcan), and how to obtain naloxone for their use as rescuers.
