A contemporary of Bill Evans, Joel has entertained 5 presidents, has been a pianist/bandleader for thousands of events for such dance orchestras including Lester Lanin, Bob Hardwick, Alex Donner, Cabot/Scott, and his own company Francine and Joel Music. He has performed at concert venues in New York, Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Japan and Greece. NYC legendary venues include: Windows On The World and The Rainbow Room. He has recorded two CD’s and also holds a B.A. from New Jersey City University, and an M.A. from Rutgers University. His latest recording, “Live At Steinway Piano Gallery” was performed on a Steinway Model D Concert Grand, and released in Japan.

The Joel Zelnik Trio perfoms in a variety of styles. We try to put our musical sincerity along with the love of the Jazz Trio format first and foremost. Our audience is an important ingredient that challenges our connection to them.

The Joel Zelnik Trio appears regularly at Concert venues, Jazz Clubs, Libraries and more, with audience engaging programs dedicated to New Jersey’s musical treasure: 7 time Grammy Award Winner Plainfield born Bill Evans. We have played to “full houses” because I personalize my experiences with Bill, conveying them with the audience.

MY BILL EVANS – A Personal Conversation: This fascinating program is based on the dialogues between Joel Zelnik and Bill Evans, a 7 time Grammy Award Winner, at the “Village Gate” during the mid-1960’s. Signature Evans works are performed. Joel and his trio present informative insight into this jazz great.

TONY BENNETT & BILL EVANS – The Legendary Recordings

This timely program is based on the dialogues between Joel Zelnik and Bill Evans, a 7 time Grammy Award Winner, at the “Village Gate”in NYC, during the mid-1960’s. Joel had the great fortune of playing at the Top of the Gate in NYC alternating sets with Evans. Highlighted is the collaboration of Bill Evans & Tony Bennett during 1975 and ‘77, yielding some of the best recordings in the history of jazz. Grammy nominee Annette Sanders reprises these great songs.

Joel also served as a Councilman in Closter, NJ and as the Library Liaison, helped to include a concert/meeting room during the library renovation. He is a member of the Closter Historic Preservation Commission, established the Closter Hall of Fame, which is on permanent display at the Closter Public Library, and includes Bill Evans, who was a resident during the mid 1970’s.
