Joyce Byrnes
As a pastel landscape artist, I am fascinated with the way light plays off the colors and textures in nature.
I use the pure pigments in soft pastels to convey the beauty, poetry and drama found in the natural world.
- Joyce Byrnes websiteI studied art at Binghamton University while pursuing my Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. I worked for many years in New York City in benefit consulting and pension plan administration and most recently handled Operations and Membership at the Edward Hopper House Museum & Study Center in Nyack, NY. I currently teach Pastel Painting at the Clarkstown Community Learning Center in Congers, NY.
I continued to study at the Art Students League, Rockland Center for the Arts, and with Garnerville artist, Andrew Mollica. I also attend pastel workshops. I am a member of the Nyack Art Collective, the Pastel Society of America (PSA) and the National Association of Women Artists (NAWA).
My subject matter is predominately landscapes and seascapes as I have a great love of nature and enjoy spending time outside. I find much of my inspiration while hiking, skiing or sailing. My work is held in private collections and has been exhibited in New York City, and in the tri-state regions of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
