Staff Guide: 2025 RCLS Road Trip Program: Library Staff on the Road

Earn Continuing Education

New this year, RCLS member library staff can earn continuing education credit for completing the Road Trip! Read below for the how, when, and why, along with other relevant details.

How it works

  • Use the Road Trip Travel Log. In the “My favorite thing...” section write about what you learned at the library and a way it can be applied to your service area and/or something you didn’t know was offered by an RCLS library.

  • Send your Road Trip log to RCLS for review after October 15, attention Joanna Goldfarb. Don't worry- you'll get it back!
    • When sending in your log, make sure to include the Road Trip Staff Continuing Education Submission Form.

  • Staff will earn 1 raffle ticket for each completed county and the chance to win a staff-only prize (TBD).

  • After review, you will receive a letter stating you have completed up to 12 hours of continuing education credit.

  • This opportunity does not qualify for trustee education.

Timing

  • Complete your Road Trip between June 30 and December 1.

  • Submit your travel log to RCLS any time between October 15 and December 5.
    • DO NOT submit your log to RCLS over the summer. Logs submitted before October 15 will be sent back unreviewed. They may be resubmitted during the appropriate time period.

  • Submitted logs will be reviewed during the month of December.

  • This extended timeframe is for RCLS member library staff only.

Why?

RCLS recognizes that each library serves their community in unique ways. We hope that by visiting all member libraries, staff will be able to bring new ideas to their own library. Additionally, staff will be better equipped to meet the diverse needs of community members by recommending services available at neighboring libraries.

Why can staff earn up to 12 hours of CE credit? This is the maximum credit hours allowed by New York State through a single non-academic project or activity. Click here to learn more.

Submission Form

Complete this form and send it to RCLS with your travel log. Travel log submissions will be accepted between October 15 - December 5.
