Getting Started with Libby on All Devices
You can use Libby, a new way to borrow and enjoy eBooks from the library, on your iOS, Android, and Microsoft devices. Learn how to get started, search for a title, borrow & download, and place a hold by clicking on the tabs below.
Libby for iOS, Android, and Microsoft Devices
Step 1: Download the free Libby app from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or the Microsoft Store.
Step 2: Open the Libby app and follow the prompts to Search Libraries and search for the Palisades Free Library. You can search by name, town, or zip code.
- Tap on Ramapo Catskill Library System to save it to your list.
Step 3: Now tap and sign in* with your library card number and PIN. By default, your PIN is the last four digits of the phone number associated with your library card.
*Signing in allows you to view and access additional titles available only to Palisades Free Library patrons. You can also save multiple cards to access more than one library system (e.g. if you have an NYPL card).
Step 1: Scroll down on the start page to browse titles by popular collections, subjects, and formats.
Step 2: Or tap and start typing in the title. Libby will automatically suggest titles based on what you type, but you can also tap Search to receive a longer list of search results.
Step 3: You can filter your results by tapping and can also Hide unavailable titles. The filter options include: Languages, Audience, and Compatibility. You can also sort the search results by Date Added, Popularity, Release Date, Title, Author, etc.
You can read / listen to a sample of titles without downloading anything to your device, even if the title is currently checked out.
The line under Read Sample will indicate if the title is currently available.

Step 1: To borrow a title tap on Borrow or tap on the cover if you’d like to learn more about the book first.
*If you did not previously sign in, the app will prompt you to sign in with your library barcode and PIN.
Step 2: Tap
Step 3: Tap Go to Shelf to go to your loans.
Step 4: Tap Open Book or Open Audiobook to begin reading or listening to your title.
Step 5: To bookmark your location, you can tap the upper right-hand corner of the screen , or swipe up from the bottom of the screen to see where you are in the book.
Step 6: To toggle between the searching feature and your loans tap either Library (to search) or Shelf (to see your loans) at the bottom of the screen.
Titles that are currently unavailable can be placed on hold.

Step 2: Confirm by tapping Place Hold!
You will receive an email notification and/or push notification when the item becomes available. You will have 3 days from the time you receive the email/notification to borrow the title or select the option to have it delivered later. The "deliver later" option keeps you at the front of the wait list but passes that copy of the title to the next person in line.
If you take no action on an available hold: The "deliver after seven days" option will be automatically applied at the end of the three-day pickup window. You'll stay at the front of the wait list. The current copy will go to the next person in line.
