The Historical Society of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands, headquartered in the 1830 Captain David Crawford House, is a private not-for-profit organization chartered by the State of New York. Incorporated in 1884, we are dedicated to preserving, promoting and protecting the unique history, architecture and culture of Newburgh Bay and the Highlands.
Our mission is to inform, inspire and connect our community by providing free and equitable access to cultural enrichment and educational experiences for all.
The Purpose of the local history collection is to collect and preserve materials relevant to the history of Newburgh, NY, and to make these materials available to students, researchers and the general public. The Library holds these materials in trust for future generations, and therefore they can be examined in the local history room only.
Newburgh Restoration is a blog that began in December 2008 after being inspired by Newburgh blogger, Anna Dorfman who writes Door Sixteen. It is written by Cher Vick who is an urban planning graduate of Hunter College in NYC. The site averages 14,000 visits per month.
