1,000 Books Before Kindergarten: Home

Welcome!

Welcome to our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program! The idea for this program is simple: read 1,000 books to your child anytime from birth until your child starts kindergarten. Sound difficult? If you read just one book a night, you’ll have read 365 books in a year. That’s 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years! (And yes, reading a favorite book over and over counts toward your goal!)

Questions?

Please contact Children's Librarian Alain Laforest at alaforest@palisadesfreelibrary.org.

How it Works

1. To register for the program, visit the library or complete this form

2. At registration, you will receive a sign-up prize of a FREE BOOK! You will also receive log for the first 100 books. Each time you read a book, color in a book picture on your log.

3. When you’ve read 100 books, it's time to visit the library to receive a sticker and a log for the next 100 books.

4. When your child reaches 500 books and 1,000 books, stop by the library to pick up a free book. When your child completes the program, we will also provide a certificate to mark this amazing achievement!

Reading Together

Reading together is one of the strongest foundations of early literacy you can give to your child. By reading with you, your child will learn to love reading, be introduced to new stories, and hear thousands of new vocabulary words. Reading together is the most important thing you can do to prepare your child for kindergarten.
