This year's Summer Reading theme is "Build a Better World." Explore books about extraordinary people, communities, inventions, and accomplishments that celebrate humanity's striving for justice, empathy, courage and innovation. Displays and bookmarks will provide recommended titles, if you need a suggestion or two.
Our Adult Summer reading program is open to patrons 18 years old and up. It will run from Saturday, July 1 through Friday, July 28. All you have to do to participate is complete and submit Book Review Sheets (either electronic or paper) and/or register for and attend any adult program during July. Reviews should be of adult materials only and you are welcome to enter as many reviews as you like. Click here to submit an electronic review. We will have weekly drawings for prizes donated by the generous Nyack business community. Prizes are limited to Nyack and Valley Cottage residents.
Four special library programs during the month of July, tie in directly to this summer's theme. On July 6 at 10:30 am, come to our screening of the award-winning documentary Happy. On the 13th at 6 pm, join in the fun of our Upcycle Planter program. On the 20th from 5 - 8 pm, come to our "Build a Better Community" fair and find out about the vital work some of Rockland County's many wonderful non-profits accomplish for the greater good. And on July 27th, join us for a screening of Jonathan Demme's documentary I am Carolyn Parker, a celebration of the resiliency of one woman and the residents of New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina.
