Tall Tales: Home

Tall Tales

Tall Tales are described as "purely an American creation."   They involve "larger than life characters" who are often based on real life people or events.  They are told with exaggerated detail and usually involve some kind of problem to be solved.  The most famous tall tales include Pecos Bill, Calamity Jane, Johnny Appleseed, Mike Fink, Paul Bunyan, and John Henry.  The library carries many traditional and contemporary Tall Tales that are listed here.
