- Pearl River by Pearl River was part of a royal land patent issued to two New York businessmen, Daniel Honan, the accountant general of New Amsterdam, and Michael Hawdon, a friend of the infamous Captain Kidd. Immigrants later settled in areas they called Nauraushaun, Middletown, Pascack, Sickletown, Orangeville, and Muddy Brook. In the 1870s, Julius Braunsdorf permitted the New York & New Jersey Railroad to run an extension through his property, which gave his new sewing machine factory access to markets and materials. The factory would later be enhanced to produce the first newspaper-folding machines. In 1906, Dr. Ernst Lederle, a former New York health commissioner, began a laboratory to produce antitoxins and other medicines. With the success and growth of these inventors and their businesses, Pearl River became a nationally known company town. Since the opening of the Tappan Zee Bridge, it has evolved into a friendly, modern bedroom community of New York City and the second-largest hamlet in New York State.Call Number: 974.74728 CASISBN: 9781467121552Publication Date: 2014-09-15

- Orangetown [Images of America series] by Settled by Dutch farmers and entrepreneurs in the 17th and 18th centuries, Orangetown's story is tied closely to America's history. It was here that British and Continental armies marched through; where the infamous Maj. John Andre, coconspirator of Benedict Arnold, was tried and hanged for treason; and where three times Washington established his headquarters. In the 19th century, Orangetown was both a quiet and productive area of farms and mills and at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution. In the early 20th century, Orangetown's rural charm attracted affluent city dwellers with spas, elegant resorts, and pristine real estate. In the 1940s, over one million soldiers trained at Camp Shanks for combat deployment in Europe. In the 1950s, life was changed irrevocably with the opening of the Tappan Zee Bridge and the New York State Thruway.
