2023 Summer Reading Program: Home
Children should register for the Grade they are entering in the fall.
You must visit the library during the week of each special "Bead of the Week" in order to receive that bead.
**All prizes, beads, and Reading Log check-ins are at the Ida Cornell Branch in Central Valley**
Register in-person at the Ida Cornell Branch.
Birth - PreK
Log each book you read by placing a sticker on your Reading Log. Visit the library each week to record the number of books you have read and pick up your weekly prize!
Don't forget to sign up for 1000 Books Before Kindergarten! This program is separate from the Summer Reading Program. Read with your child and stop in the library at each hundred book milestone to move your name up our wall display until you reach 1000! Can be completed any time before a child enters Kindergarten.
Kindergarten - Grade 2
Log each book you read in your Reading Log and/or on Beanstack. Visit the library each week to record the number of books you have read; you will receive one bead for every 5 books you read that week AND a special Bead of the Week!
Grade 3 - 5
Log the number of minutes you read each day in your Reading log and/or on Beanstack. Visit the library each week to record how many minutes you read that week; you will receive one bead for every 60 minutes of reading AND a special Bead of the Week!
Grade 6 and up
Tweens and Teens can volunteer, attend programs, log reading, or all three! If you would like to volunteer make sure we have a volunteer application on file then sign up for hours. Log your reading using Beanstack and/or a paper log.
Tickets
Earn tickets to win more prizes!
Displayed in the Central Valley Library are boxes for prizes you can win by earning tickets!
You can earn tickets by:
- Attending a Storytime (1 ticket)
- Attending a Program (1 ticket)
- Attending Krafty Kids (1 ticket)
- Earning 5 beads (Grades K-5) - (1 ticket)
- Volunteering 1 hour (Grades 6 and up) - (1 ticket)
- Writing a Book Review (Grades 6 and up) - (1 ticket)
Prizes for Grades K-5 are displayed in the Early Literacy Garden
Prizes for Grades 6 and up are displayed in the Teen Area
WINNERS FOR ALL PRIZES WILL BE DRAWN AT THE SUMMER READING "ALL TOGETHER NOW" FINALE ON FRI. AUGUST 4th FROM 6-8
YOU MAY ONLY WIN ONCE - if your name is drawn on a second prize you can choose which prize you would like to keep and a different winner will be chosen for the prize you do not want.
You do not need to be present to win. If you could not attend the Beach Party and you won a prize, you will be contacted by a library staff member.
