- The Last Year of the War by2 stars - It was OK
Story about a friendship between a young German American girl and a young Japanese girl during World War II. The story tells of their life during the war and after. - Blessing in Disguise by4 stars - I really liked it!
Typical Danielle Steel book. If you enjoy her as a writer, you'll love the book. Just enough drama and plot twists to keep you interested. - Lost and Found by4 stars - I really liked it!
Well-written book about love, family, and adventure. - The Silent Patient by5 stars - I loved it!
This book was a psychological thriller told in the first person by two different characters, about an accused murderer and her troubled psychologist in England. From the time the book started, you couldn't tell who or what to believe. I could not put this book down - the twists and turns were entertaining all the way to the very end. - Alice in Wonderland by3 stars - I liked it
A nonsensical story about a child who enters a world where the unbelievable occurs. The reader learns at the end that the child has been dreaming. Although there seems to be innuendos of substance abuse, it has been said that Lewis Carroll had not intention of such a theme. - Beneath a Scarlet Sky by4 stars - I really liked it
It kept my interest the entire time and I didn't want to put it down. It made me want to cry and laugh. The author did really well-done research. - Half Broke Horses by5 stars - I loved it!
It didn't have a plot, but it took me only a couple of hours to read because I couldn't put it down. Should be made into a movie! A bunch of incredible anecdotes. - Go Set a Watchman by2 stars - It was OK
Definitely disappointing. I loved Atticus and Scout's characters in "To Kill a Mockingbird," but not here. I liked that the story continued but also know that his book was never finished.
1 star - I didn't like it
My wife wanted me to read it and I didn't like it. No my type of book.
4 stars - I really liked it
In this book, Scout returns home to visit her aging father. Her past experiences as a child in the South impacts who she is today. Does she only remember through her child's eyes or can she fully understand hidden clues? Mostly it was great except the part with her uncle lecturing too long. - To Kill a Mockingbird by5 stars - I loved it!
It was thought-provoking and kept me engaged! I felt like I knew the characters and couldn't get enough of them. This book challenged my own beliefs about race and racism.
4 stars - I really liked it
A classic with relevant themes. We can learn so much from children as we learn what Scout and her brother learn from life in a small town in Alabama.
5 stars - I loved it!
From the eyes of Scout, we see the post-war South in a small town. Fantastic writing, great characters and a real struggle that we are still fighting today. - Girl, Stop Apologizing by3 stars - I liked it
Rachel Hollis is a right-in-your-face, tell it like it is, kind of author. She's no Ernest Hemingway but she can hold her own in her genre. It's a good self-help book if you are feeling stuck by what others may think of you. - One Plus One by4 stars - I really liked it
A humorous and heart-warming story of two unlikely people who end up coming together through trying circumstances. The story is thought-provoking and unpredictable A good summer read! - Hell's Corner by4 stars - I really liked it
Baldacci gave clues to keep the reader engaged to figure out who was behind the "terrorism" and why. Using the U.S. Capitol as the setting, the secretiveness of the various agencies proved to add more drama to this mystery and "who-dun-it." - The Quickie by1 star - I didn't like it
Patterson keeps the story moving. In the beginning I wanted to know why the husband did it. There had to be more. - Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang by3 stars - I liked it
I enjoy Chelsea's talk show and even attended one of her live performances in Atlantic City. This book was a collection of different pranks she has pulled and funny experiences with her family, friends and previous boyfriend, Ted. It was OK but was not one of my favorite celebrity books. I was hoping to get her latest novel, but it was not available at the time of check out. - The Play of Death by4 stars - I really liked it
Extremely suspenseful mystery - with equally worthy sub-plots - surrounding a 17th century Bavarian hangman, his children, and grandchildren. The book is heavily researched and provides a vivid glimpse of the past. - Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by4 stars - I really liked it
I often dream I'm flying. While reading Harry Potter I dreamed I was riding on a magic carpet over a barbeque and caught a baseball mid-air! Thank you, Quidditch! - Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by4 stars - I really liked it
It is nice to see the characters grow and find new twists at the end of the story. - Rasl by2 stars - It was OK
Neither main character nor plot was that interesting. The coolest parts focused on Nicola Tesla but there's more interesting stuff about him out there. - Philip K. Dick by3 stars - I liked it
Dick is one of my favorite authors. It was interesting to see his life is as weird as the things he writes. Parts of Through a Scanner Darkly were autobiographical. - The Perfect Family by3 stars - I liked it
This was an interesting book that kept you guessing. It was a little drawn out, but it was still pretty decent. Give it a read and you'll realize there's no "perfect family." - Alaskan Holiday by5 stars - I loved it!
It was a book where love and distance don't matter, but being considerate of the other person's aims. - Death of Yesterday by2 stars - it was OK
My husband really likes the M.C.Beaton Hamish MacBeth series. I read her first in the series and a later one. A noticeable difference in her storytelling between the two. Quick reads and usually a surprise murderer. - The Stone Circle by4 stars - I really liked it
This is the 11th book in the Ruth Galloway series. She is a forensic anthropologist. Takes place in the present in East Anglia. Start from #1 in the series. - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by2 stars - It was OK
The creatures portray a very vivid description, allowing the reader to create them in their imagination. - Golden Child by2 stars - It was OK
A story of twins being raised in Trinidad and the lengths a parent will go through to provide their child with opportunity. Don't expect a happy ending. - The Montessori Toddler by4 stars - I really liked it
Looking at different physical spaces within a home, various activities, and self-directed functions. Davies discusses practical application of Montessori ideas that can be implemented outside of classrooms. It's useful and a well-organized easy read. - Hell's Corner by3 stars - I liked it
High action in the nation's capitol with the nation's agencies wanting to be the "one" in power. - The Kitchen God's Wife by5 stars - I loved it!
A great historical fiction book that begins with a complicated relationship between a woman and her Chinese-American mother. The story centers around her mother's experience married to a brutal military pilot in China during the Second Sino-Japanese War and her mother's escape to the United States to begin a new life with her father. - The Lost Vintage by4 stars - I really liked it
I really enjoyed this book. I learned a lot about making wine and life in France during World War II. Great mystery and insight to this time period. - Staggerford by5 stars - I loved it!
It felt like the characters were people I'd already met in my own life. I found it to be very well-written and I will read more of this author. - The Spook in the Stacks by4 stars - I really liked it
What a fun idea - murder mysteries based in a library, one that's a lighthouse, no less! The characters were enjoyable and the book a light read. - The Blink of an Eye by2 stars - It was OK
Story of a young mother who gets very ill and lapses into a coma. The story continues in her quest for survival and healing. - The Best American Short Stories 2018 by5 stars - I loved it!
Huge variety of some serious, some funny, and some strange stories. Very different, unique stories, and interesting people. Loved reading all of them and quick reading, too. - Mrs. Everything by4 stars - I really liked it
This book was not what I expected from the title. I enjoyed the story which tells about a different way of life than what I am accustomed to. - Hearts of Fire by3 stars - I liked it

Wow! It seems like this novel was a groundbreaking piece of literature. So many other books have drawn from this. Great, great, great! - American Prison by4 stars - I really liked it
An undercover reporter infiltrates the staff of a for-profit prison to discover the lives and horrors that lie within. - The Audacity of Hope byThen Senator Obama shares his thoughts and plans for leading the country forward in a divisive political climate. Very interesting from the Trump era.
- The Queen of Gold and Straw by5 stars - I loved it!
What a pleasant surprise! This retelling of a classic fairy tale creates an engaging story line which flushed in details in a believable manner - believable in a fantasy, that is. - A Spell of Murder by2 stars - It was OK
It's really tough to write a book from a cat's point of view without getting cutsie, especially a murder mystery. Clea Simon just couldn't pull it off - the mystery is contrived, the characters somewhat flat. - Twilight by4 stars - I really liked it
I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I did not expect it to be a very romantic love story. Lots of emotional moments for Bella and Edward, that really keep you reading. Good for teens and older readers, too. - Finding Dorothy by4 stars - I really liked it
Find Dorothy is a creative story about the author of the Wizard of Oz and his wife. I will never look at the movie the same again, especially The Land of Aahs, the Emerald City, and Auntie Em. - The Farm by2 stars - It was OK
This book follows a period in the lives of four women and their involvement in Golden Oaks, a luxury retreat where women go to gestate the babies of the rich, connected and famous. The idea was good, but the end result, disappointing. - Watership Down by5 stars - I loved it!
My favorite book of all time! An adventure story featuring some unlikely heroes. - Liar Liar by4 stars - I really liked it
Book #3 in the Detective Harriet Blue series and it just keeps on getting better. I found myself reading it and wondering how far I would go to get revenge for my family. - The Devil's Cold Dish by4 stars - I really liked it
Aside from being a good mystery, you learn a lot from the historical details - there is an interesting witchcraft background. You get a real feeling for 1790 rural Maine. - Micro by4 stars - I really liked it
Interesting story - lots of information regarding insects. The insect, bird, weather, and the environment become a huge, sometimes fatal, obstacle to a team who is looking for answers. - The Aftermath by3 Stars - I liked it
Enemies live together after World War II. Hatred of each other is slowly dissolved when each can sympathize with similar losses each has experienced. As relationships begin, more problems arise causing more anguish. - In a Dark, Dark Wood by2 stars - It was OK
This book had a very slow start. Honestly, all you would have to do is read the last 40 pages and you were good. It was about a girl going to a "hen" (aka bachelorette) party of her friend who she hasn't seen in 10 years, that's marrying her ex-boyfriend. It gets crazy and a twist here and there and then it all goes wrong. Just an OK book. - A Fresh Kill by4 stars - I really liked it
A fun, cozy mystery - great characters - easy read! - Of Mice and Men by3 stars - I liked it
Gritty, yet poignant, novella that explores difficult questions faced by two friends in an unfriendly world. - The First Lady by5 stars - I loved it!
It was a quick read! Definitely full of drama! I enjoyed the political parts as well. - In Harm's Way by5 stars - I loved it!
Story filled with twists and turns. Many story lines intertwined. A real page turner. A love story with suspense thrown in. Hard to put down. - Soul Repair by2 stars - It was OK
Soul Repair is a book about helping soldiers deal with moral injury incurred by serving during war. While the topic interested me, the authors continually inserted their opinion about the legality and morality of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. While the legality and morality of war may be a factor in dealing with moral injury, it felt more like the authors were pushing an anti-war propaganda message. There was some good information on how to assist veterans dealing with moral injuries once you waded through all the propaganda. - Winter Stroll by4 stars - I really liked it
Part two of the trilogy. The main character reflects on the past year and looks forward to things to come. - The Five Red Herrings by2 stars - It was OK
I wanted a book to listen to, so this did the job. Unfortunately, it was hard to hear and understand because of the sound effects. It was also hard to follow because there were 6 suspects without a ton of character development and a lot of repetition that made it somewhat boring. - The Other Einstein by2 stars - It was OK
I didn't see the words "a novel" until a bit late. I thought it was going to be an accurate biography but, alas, only a historical novel. Author's notes at end were excellent in giving resources to find some info about Mileva Maric, Einstein's first wife. - The Book Supremacy by3 stars - I liked it
I usually enjoy the books in this series more. This one didn't conclude well, didn't make sense to me. Still, enjoyable premise and fun characters. - The Soul of America by4 stars - I really liked it!
This book tells the story of our democracy from its inception to current day. So many stories and quotes are relevant today. - Fruitful Bodies by3 stars - I liked it
Well-written plot coupled with a setting in Bath made this a good mystery read. - The Store by4 stars - I really liked it
It was very Orwellian, but made me think about technology in our lives. I loved it! - To Have and to Hold by4 stars - I really liked it
I really liked how this book addressed the experience of motherhood as many mothers go through it, dealing with issues of equality and expectations. Not sure I agree with all of it, but definitely fascinating. - Rocket Men by4 stars - I really liked it
Such an interesting book! Amazing to hear about the very first trip to the moon. I never knew the entire story behind the journey of Neil Armstrong. Well-written. - Becoming by4 stars - I really liked it
Very well-written account of Michelle's early years and her journey to the White House with Barack Obama. The back story we never knew.
4 stars - I really liked it
Interesting read to learn Michelle's background and story. Written honestly and very genuinely. - Alex Cross, Run by2 stars - It was OK
A quick read - written without a co-author. Similar plot to his other books. Lesson - how quickly a person's position, trust, or character can be undermined by someone (truth or lies). - The Widows of Malabar Hill by5 stars - I loved it!
This mystery, which takes place in 1920s Bombay, India, totally sucked me into the world through the likable main character, the first woman lawyer in Bombay, and through a strong sense of place.
4 stars - I really liked it
Fantastic look into the Indian/Muslim cultures in 1920s Bombay.
4 stars - I really liked it
In a culture canted against women's equality, the main character, a young woman whose family has raised her to live beyond the cultural mores, loses heart in more ways than one - and then regains the heart that counts - The People vs. Alex Cross by3 stars - I liked it
Definitely a great beach read! It was hard to put it down! The ending was hard to believe, but still a good read. - The Simple Wild by5 stars - I loved it!
A sweet and thoughtful story about a woman who visits her estranged father in a coastal town in Alaska. the audio book is great and I have listened to it before. - Still Foolin' 'Em by5 stars - I loved it!
A great look into a wonderful life. On how his time with his family played into where he is now and what life is like for him at 65. I recommend the audio book as it is read by Billy and some chapters are with a live audience. - Hooks Can Be Deceiving by3 stars - I liked it
Entertaining, but the story and characters are too lightweight. - The Aftermath by4 stars - I really liked it
World War II is over but feelings, opinions, and hatred are not so easily erased as enemies come to live together. - Camino Island by3 stars - I liked it
A typical Grisham novel, but with a bit of irony at the end. Some interesting characters. - The Flight Attendant by5 stars - I loved it!
A riveting tale with a surprise ending. Set in Dubai, New York, and in the air. Great characters: drunks, spies, and lovers -- all mixed together. - Love, Lucy by4 stars - I really liked it
Not only was this autobiography about the fascinating entertainer, but also about the world of theater, movies and, eventually, TV. - Indecent Exposure by4 stars - I really liked it
Fun page turner - great summer read. Stone and friends cruise the Keys and end up in Cuba and are present at the signing of the normalization of ties with Cuba. Then back to New York to further mayhem. - The Mark of Athena by3 stars - I liked it
Interesting young adult book based on the premise that the Olympian gods live in the 21st century. A little odd at times, but a fun, engaging read.

I love the main character, America. It is such an odd way to get married, but it was fund reading about how she healed from a broken heart and learned to love again. - Happily Ever After by4 stars - I really liked it

This was the sequel to Ash Princess and I was happy that it was as good as the first. I can't wait for the third book to come out next year. I love how Theodosia becomes a strong leader in her role as queen.
5 stars - I loved it!
Most sequels aren't as good as the first book, but this one was every bit as intriguing and exciting! I couldn't put it down and read it in a single day. - Ash Princess by5 stars - I loved it!
This book is amazing! I wasn't expecting to like it this much, but I couldn't put it down and couldn't wait to read the next one. Lady Theodosia is a very strong character and the story is amazing.
5 stars - I loved it!
I enjoyed this book even though I wasn't expecting to! The author does a wonderful job making the main character, Theodosia, likable and realistic despite the story's circumstances. - The Thousandth Floor by2 stars - It was OK
While the book was well-written and the world building was amazing, the story was too full of teen drama and bad life decisions for me to enjoy it. Not my type. - The Light over London by4 stars - I really liked it.
Wonderful story about parallel lives - one modern and one during World War II. I learned a lot about the women gunners in the British army! - The Shaker Murders by4 stars - I really liked it
I learned a lot about the Shaker community. I enjoyed meeting the different characters - this was the first Will Rees book I have read - and I enjoyed trying to solve the mystery! - Born a Crime by4 stars - I really liked it
Hard to imagine that this (apartheid) was still going on in the world at that time. He truly was born a crime to a very determined, strong-willed mother. He faces some difficult subjects with humor because the alternative is horrific. - Full House by4 stars - I really liked it
Janet Evanovich is a lighthearted author who adds comedy and drama mixed with lots of steam. I enjoy listening to her audio books in the car as I drive around town. - Civil War Movie Edition by1 star - I didn't like it
The comic had a story line that was okay, but there were so many characters in the book I could not figure out who was a good guy or who was a bad guy. - On Being Human by4 stars - I really liked it
A memoir written by Jen Pastiloff telling the story of her life as a woman with many issues, including hearing loss, eating disorders, and her love of yoga. - Two Nights by3 stars - I liked it
Hired to solve an old mystery, Sunday Night is finally persuaded to use her investigative skills to find the killers, but may need to find herself first. Thought the character "veered away from herself" in the end. Not one of the better books of Reich's. - Come Find Me by4 stars - I really liked it
This book was hard to get into, but it was entertaining once you get past the first 3 or 4 chapters. I was concerned because of all of the paranormal talk that it was going to go in a strange direction, but it was a thriller and the ending was unexpected. It held my interest. - Marbles by4 stars - I really liked it
I don't typically read graphic novels, but was encouraged by the Summer Bingo Card challenge. I enjoyed Ellen's honesty and humor as she shares her journey with Bipolar Disorder. This memoir also highlights many different artists, poets, and storytellers who struggled with mental illness. Ellen explores different medications and fears that they might hinder her creativity as an artist and cartoonist. I enjoyed the different illustrations which conveyed Ellen's different highs and lows. It was an eye-opening story that provided a new perspective to the reader about Bipolar Disorder. - The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie by4 stars - I really liked it
I though it was a great description of a romance with someone with high level Aspergers - The Glass Castle by4 stars - I really liked it
I read Half Broke Horses first and loved it, and this book is a roller coaster. I enjoyed it a lot, especially since I could see connections between the stories. It is a story about the merits of hard work overcoming hard circumstances. - Gift from the Sea by5 stars - I loved it!
Meditations on the solitude and contentment of life written when she was on vacation by the sea. Definitely a good read to relax and unwind by. - Daughter of Fortune by4 stars - I really liked it
Although this is a story of Eliza Sommers, an orphaned Chilean girl, what I liked best was the setting, which moves to California during the Gold Rush. The setting is beautifully painted and the characters are richly portrayed! - The Wife by3 stars - I liked it
This book had a lot going on - from harassment, murder, infidelity, family, love, and a nice twist in the end. It kept me reading. - The Best of Me by3 stars - I liked it
This book reminded me a little of Spark's other book "The Notebook," with the theme of the power of love. Things may not always work out the way you would like, but maybe they work out the way you need. - Sold on a Monday by4 stars - I really liked it
A good story about how you can often amend some bad decisions. Good inclusion of news facts that happened during the time period of story. - What Angels Fear by2 stars - It was OK
It was the 1st in a series. I will not read the next. The historical aspects were interesting - it almost borders on a swashbuckling romance! - Sourdough by4 stars - I really liked it

Not wanting to give the story away, Lawhon writes of Anastasia's life progressing while telling Annas's life backward until the thrilling conclusion when both lives collide. - The Astronaut Wives Club by3 stars - I liked it
Although this was not a genre I usually read, I enjoyed this book. Since there were so many astronaut wives in the club, I found the book somewhat confusing. I would have enjoyed it more if only a few were the focus of the book - America by Heart by4 stars - I really liked it
Excellent read Very patriotic and interesting ideas regarding America's present and future. Sarah involves her family, faith, and culture in her presentation. She is extremely passionate about her values and visions I learned a lot about her family also. - Silent Night by4 stars - I really liked it

His writing takes a little bit of getting used to, but a nice read. - The Lost Vintage byThis was a good story which I enjoyed, but nothing amazing. The end was tied up with a bow almost too well, but worth the easy read to learn about wine and French history.

The introductory novel to the Mistborn series where the Survivor raises a ragtag group of Mistings to overthrow the Final Empire and give freedom to the Ska. - Winter Street by4 stars - I really liked it
First book of the trilogy. Set on Nantucket Island during Christmas. About a family getting together for the holidays and working through all the complications. - Lilac Girls by4 stars - I really liked it
Lilac Girls is a great World War II story of 3 women with 3 different experiences. The author entwines the stories beautifully. It's a story of strength, struggle, and empowerment. - The Cabin at the End of the World by2 stars - It was OK
I rarely would give a book less than 4 stars, because even if I'm not crazy about it I probably found it somewhat entertaining. This book, however, was not. I had to fight with myself to trudge through it. It had a fantastic premise with so much potential - mysterious strangers force their way into lakeside cabin to tell a vacationing family that they alone have the power to stop the end of the world. That is where the interesting part ended. The writing was simplistic, the constant flashbacks were uninteresting and didn't offer anything to add to the current issue, and the writing from different perspectives was confusing. No one was likable, so I wasn't really rooting for anyone. And there was no ending. I twas like the author couldn't decide how to end the novel, so he just didn't. - Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: the Illustrated Edition by5 stars - I loved it!
Better ending than the last two - not as predictable. I have a theory building about the end of the series. Also, I love that they're preteens bending the rules. Cool to see the progression, especially in Ron. - Little Fires Everywhere by5 stars - I loved it!
Many changes take place when an enigmatic stranger moves into an idyllic suburb. This was a thrilling book that was difficult to put down. - Lock Every Door by5 stars - I loved it!

It has been so interesting and enjoyable to watch Maisie Dobbs evolve - great historical background! Always a great read! - The Quickie by4 stars - I really liked it
Good opening story line - wondering "So where is Patterson going with this story?" Using the NYPD techniques against being discovered Lauren (NYPD) thinks she knows what is going on and proceeds to save her husband until . . . . - The Wife Between Us by3 stars - I liked it
Just a suggestion - don't listen to this book on audio. It was super confusing. It kept flipping back and forth in time and it was hard to tell who they were talking about. Once it got going it was an OK book about a wife that seemed very fragile, but in the end pulls through and saver her replacement. - Auschwitz Lullaby by3 stars - I liked it
This book looks at Auschwitz from the Gypsy point of view. It was still terrible conditions with disease and starvation, but it seems that the Germans treated the Gypsies a tiny bit better than the Jewish prisoners. Did you know they had a school in Auschwitz in the Birkenau camp on the Gypsy side? Created by Joseph Mengele, the doctor that did terrible experiments on twins. He allowed a German nurse to teach there as she was not a prisoner. She was there because her kids were gypsies and she wouldn't leave them. Mengele did it all for propaganda, of course, but it was in operation for several months. This book is a true story. - Tiffany Girl by5 stars - I loved it!
Interesting look at the life of a young lady in the 1890s. All the restrictions placed on women and how they are looked down on if they wanted a different type of life. - Other Words for Home by4 stars - I really liked it
Short and sweet story from the perspective of a young Syrian girl moving to America. Offers profound insights into her perspective - so well-written you forget it's fiction. - Dannemora by5 stars - I loved it!
A very detailed story on the escape at this jail. It was fascinating to learn about all the small details. - Heartsong by4 stars - I really liked it
A good story, but not my favorite Macomber. - Delusion in Death by4 stars - I really liked it
This is one in a lengthy In Death series of books by J.D. Robb (aka Nora Roberts). This is a futuristic crime/mystery series that follows the same characters, a tough NYPD cop with a dark past, her rich husband, also with a colorful past, along with supporting characters that add comedy and heart to each novel. I'm never disappointed in this series. It helps if you read them in order for the character development, but isn't necessary. - A War of Gifts by3 stars - I liked it
I love Enders Game, so I looked for more Orson Scott Card books. This was a much shorter book, but its quality was just as good. I just wish it was longer and the plot even more developed, but well worth the time to read. - Breaking the Rules by3 stars - I liked it

It was fascinating to revisit Pride & Prejudice from the experience of the house staff. The original novel was just a shadow on the edge of this story - the way the servants were shadows in the original. The story was engaging and it made me hug my washing machine (laundry day sounded awful). - Lost Lake by2 stars - It was OK
Friends reconnect at a run-down lakeside resort. - Sisters in Law by4 stars - I really liked it
