Beyond RCLS

American Association for State and Local History 250th Anniversary Program Handbook

This handbook offers simple, sustainable ideas to inspire your planning for the Semiquincentennial. There are five overarching themes:

  • Unfinished Revolutions
  • Power of Place
  • We the People
  • American Experiment
  • Doing History

Indigenous America 250

The Indigenous America 250 initiative focuses on researching and sharing the diverse experiences and perspectives of Indigenous peoples in the region between the Dawnland in Maine and the Chesapeake-Tidewater region in Virginia. As a community-engaged and collaborative effort, we are working with Native experts to identify significant topics and themes related to the Revolutionary War.

I Love NY

2026 officially marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. New York has played an immense and vital role in our country’s journey to independence – nearly a third of American Revolution battles were fought on New York soil – and the subsequent 250 years of American history.

New York State Museum

New York State’s 250th commemoration will seek to highlight and commemorate not just the roles of New York’s citizens during the Revolutionary War, but also the subsequent 250 years of action toward the ideals of our nation’s founding principles. Through exhibitions, events, public programs, and publications, the 250th commemoration will focus on the revolutionary actions of New Yorkers and the ever-evolving process by which they have fought to bring the nation closer to its founding principles.
