We Have Your Answers!

Section 2: LIBRARY COLLECTION
  • This year, Section 2 includes questions on Physical Holdings only, so there are many renumbered questions.
  • Report your data as of the end of your library's fiscal year.
  • You are being provided with the answers to questions 2.1 through 2.21:

May & June FYE Libraries – Data was compiled using reports run in Symphony prior to migration
December FYE Libraries – Data was compiled with both Symphony reports run prior to migration and Koha statistics from 8/1/2024 - 12/31/2024

  • Q2.13 - 2.28 about from last year about Electronic Materials have been deleted.

  • Q2.15 Instructions from DLD were clarified that Vox and Wonderbooks should be included in this answer.
  • Q2.17 & 2.21: The answers to these questions will be significantly reduced this year, as they no longer include electronic holdings.

Note on Fiction v. Nonfiction Counts

December Year End libraries will see an increase in the number of Nonfiction titles and a proportional decrease in the number of Fiction titles in both the Adult and Juvenile categories. These shifts should not be significant enough to trigger an explanatory note.

In previous years, these numbers were determined via Item Category 1, a value entered by staff at the time of item linking. In Symphony, the default Item Category 1 value for many book item types was FICTBOOK. In Koha, the distinction of fiction and nonfiction is reported via data in the MARC record. Year end June libraries will see this correction next year.

Similarly, December Year End libraries may see slight shifts in numbers in Other Print Serials and Other Circulating Physical Items due to these reports now being based on Item Type rather than Item Category 1.
