Local History in the Classroom: Connecting Community & Curriculum

A brief guide to linking local history & community heritage to curriculum topics.,focusing on the Mid-Hudson area of New York State, by S. Gardner 2023

MUNICIPAL HISTORIANS

If you do not know the appointed municipal historian for your community (most have them, it is a NYS law), you can access a list at:

LOCAL HISTORICAL SOCIETIES & PUBLIC LIBRARIES

Call your local library to find out if there are local historical societies you can contact.  Often they have an archive, but in the Mid-Hudson, few have developed digitized collections.  They might have a document they can scan for you, or a volunteer who can help connect your curriculum topic to the local area.

Also ask if the public library has a digital collection or website you can access!

HELP FORM

Can't find a local document or connection to your curriculum topic?  Fill out the HELP form and we'll try to help!
