Summer 2018: Summer Reading Program

Libraries Rock!

Welcome to Tappan Library's 2018 Summer Reading Program!

Each year, we offer a fun, no-pressure program to keep kids reading and prevent "summer slide."  Kids choose their own books and read at their own pace for a chance to win prizes!  This year's theme is Libraries Rock!  The Summer Reading Program runs Tuesday, June 19 to Friday, August 10.  Register in the library to receive a reading log.  For more information, contact Youth Services Librarian Lara Cohen at 845-359-3877 or lcohen@tappanlibrary.org.

Children Entering Grades K-5

Starting Tuesday, June 19, stop by the library to register and pick up a reading log.  For every 20 minutes your child reads, color in or cross out a square on the reading log.  When your child has completed four hours of reading, he or she can come pick out of prize!  Children may complete as many reading logs as they want this summer, but can only receive one prize per week.

In addition, when you stop by the library your child can enter a raffle for that week's big prize!  Raffles can only be entered once per week.

Children 5 and Under (not entering kindergarten)

Even the youngest children can take part this summer by starting our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program.  For more information on this ongoing program, click here.

Book Face Photo Tips

  • These photos are all about perspective: if the picture on the book is about the same size as your face, hold it close to you.  If it's smaller, hold it farther away.
  • Get a friend’s help to take the picture and line you up exactly.
  • You can even dress like the photo or style your hair to match.
  • Do a Google image search for "book face" for inspiration!
