Goshen Local History Resources: Rare Books Collection & Maps

Resources from Goshen Public Library's Local History Collection

Rare Books Collection

Our Local History Collection includes many rare books that gather otherwise unpublished information about the rich history of our area. Some of these books can only be found in our collection, and offer information of a greater depth than any other resource.

Because of their unique nature, books from our Local History Collection do not circulate. These Materials are accessible when the Local History Room is open, Monday through Friday from 10 am to 2 pm. We have a photocopier available, and users are welcome to take pictures for their research.

Biographies

We retain rare unpublished works documenting the lives of individuals and groups from our area, including painter Horace Pippin and jazz pianist Willie "the Lion" Smith.

History

These books are grouped by geographic area, Local Towns, Orange County, and New York State.

Geography

Our collection of maps and atlases include surveys, town maps, county maps, from as early as rh 1700's.

Some maps and surveys are extremely rare and very fragile, and can only be viewed with the help of our Local Historian.
